Employee Benefit Open Enrollment

Employee Benefit Open Enrollment

Benefit Open Enrollment May 1st - May 31st

Benefit open enrollment is a designated period that allows eligible employees to make certain changes to their benefits. Because the District offers pre-tax payroll deductions for medical, dental, vision, and flexible spending accounts through an IRS Section 125 (Cafeteria) Plan, changes to benefit elections are generally limited. Benefit Open Enrollment provides an opportunity to make allowable updates during this time.

The changes made during Benefit Open Enrollment will take effect at the start of the new plan year on September 1st. Benefit payroll deductions for the new plan year will begin with the August paycheck.

What changes can be made?

  • Add or Remove dependents from benefit plans.

  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) require enrollment or re-enrollment every year. If you want to participate in an FSA, you must take action during Spring Enrollment.

  • If you are not making changes to your medical, dental, or vision coverage for the upcoming plan year, no action is required for those benefits.

  • Enroll in additional optional benefits.

  • Benefit changes made outside of Benefit Open Enrollment are limited and must meet the guidelines of the District’s Cafeteria Plan, as described in the Qualifying Life Event Guide.

Enrolling dependents?

If you are enrolling eligible dependents on your plan, documentation is required.
