Sick Leave Bank

Sick Leave Bank

The Sick Leave Bank is designed to help employees avoid financial hardship when they are unable to work due to illness or injury. If a Sick Leave Bank Member uses all of their available paid leave, and they need additional time off for their own illness or injury, they may apply for a Sick Leave Bank grant to continue receiving pay. The district does not provide a separate short-term disability benefit. All Sick Leave Bank grant requests are reviewed and approved by the appropriate Sick Leave Bank Committee.

Membership in the Sick Leave Bank is automatic unless a new employee chooses to opt out during their onboarding appointment.

  • Full details regarding membership and the operation of the Certified Sick Leave Bank can be found in Article IX - Leaves, Section D. Sick Leave Bank in the Negotiated Agreement.

    Membership:

Unless an employee opts out of the Sick Leave Bank during onboarding, they will automatically contribute the number of days required, as established by the Sick Leave Bank Committee, and become a member of the Certified Sick Leave Bank. Contributing one day of sick leave is currently required for membership.

    Grants:

Sick Leave Bank grants are only for the medical needs of an employee. Grant requests will be reviewed by the Certified Sick Leave Bank Committee once a month. In order for a certified employee to be eligible to apply for a Sick Leave Bank grant, the employee must meet the following criteria:
