Paid Leave Benefit Allotments & Calculations Guide
Employees may receive up to five (5) paid workdays of bereavement leave per school year following the death of an eligible family member.
For purposes of bereavement leave, family member includes a spouse, child, foster child, parent, foster parent, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, grandparent, grandchild, legal guardian, or the same relationship by marriage.
If additional time is needed beyond the five-day bereavement leave allowance, employees may use available sick leave, subject to District guidelines.
In special circumstances, the Superintendent or Deputy Superintendent may approve bereavement leave for individuals not included in the definition of family listed above.
Employees, who are summoned by proper judicial authority to serve on a jury, or to appear in court as a witness during their regular work hours, shall be granted a leave of absence with pay for the time required. A copy of the jury duty summons shall be submitted to the employee’s supervisor. The employee shall be entitled to keep fees and mileage reimbursement paid by the court in addition to their regular salary. Travel expenses in connection with this duty are not subject to reimbursement by the School District.
Eligible employees receive five (5) personal leave days each school year. Personal leave is provided at the beginning of the school year.
Employees hired into a leave-eligible position during the school year will receive a prorated personal leave allotment based on their anticipated work schedule and hire date.
Front-Loaded Leave
Because personal leave is provided in advance, leave balances may be adjusted if:
- Employment ends before the end of the school year, or
- An employee takes an approved unpaid leave of absence.
Any unearned personal leave will be deducted from the employee's allotted balance.
Carryover of Unused Leave
Employees may carry over up to three (3) unused personal leave days from one school year to the next.
The maximum personal leave balance at any time is eight (8) days.
Restrictions
Personal leave may not be used to extend an employee's termination date.
Excess Personal Leave Pay-Out
Reviewed annually
Employees covered by the Negotiated Agreement will receive payment for unused personal leave days in excess of three (3) days at the end of the school year.
Eligible days will be paid in the July payroll at the current approved rate of $110 per day.
Eligible employees shall be allowed up to two (2) days, with full pay, of religious leave per year when their religious institution has designated those days as non-work days. Requests for such leave must be made in writing to the Superintendent, or designee, through the principal. Such requests may be denied if not filed in the Superintendent’s or designee’s office at least ten (10) calendar days prior to the requested absence.
Eligible employees earn one (1) day of sick leave for each month of service based on their projected work schedule. To earn sick leave for a month, employees must work the majority of their scheduled workdays during that month.
The full annual sick leave allotment is granted at the beginning of the employee's work schedule.
Employees hired into a leave-eligible position during the school year will receive a prorated sick leave allotment based on their anticipated work schedule and hire date.
