Know What to Do When an Injury Occurs

Accidents and injuries can happen when we least expect them. Whether an incident involves an employee, student, visitor, volunteer, or other individual on District property, prompt reporting helps ensure appropriate care, accurate documentation, and timely follow-up.

Use the information below to find the correct reporting process, forms, and resources based on the type of injury or incident being reported.

Workers' Compensation

Boise School District employees are covered by Workers' Compensation insurance for work-related injuries and illnesses. Prompt reporting helps ensure employees receive appropriate medical care, protects Workers' Compensation benefits, and allows the District to provide necessary support throughout the recovery process.

Use the sections below to understand reporting requirements, medical treatment procedures, and return-to-work expectations following a work-related injury.

  • For life-threatening injuries or medical emergencies, call 911 immediately before contacting the Nurse Triage Line.

After emergency medical care has been provided, the employee, supervisor, or designated representative must contact the SIFCare Nurse Triage Line as soon as possible to report the injury and begin the Workers' Compensation claim process.

    • This process applies only to Boise School District employees who are paid through the District payroll system.
    • Volunteers, student teachers, contractors, vendors, visitors, and other non-employees should not contact the SIFCare Nurse Triage Line.
    • Injuries involving non-employees should be reported using the appropriate student, visitor, or non-employee incident reporting process.
    • Questions regarding coverage or reporting requirements should be directed to workerscomp@boiseschools.org
    • Report the injury to your supervisor as soon as possible and no later than 24 business hours after the injury occurs.
    • If medical attention is needed beyond what can be provided at the worksite, the employee and supervisor should contact the SIFCare Nurse Triage Line together whenever possible.
    • If the supervisor or school nurse is unavailable, the employee may call independently.
  • 📞 1-866-453-5216
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.

    When calling, please provide:

    • Company Name: Boise School District
    • Policy Number: 9330

    The Nurse Triage Line will:

    • Provide first aid guidance and next-step recommendations
    • Determine whether medical treatment is needed
    • Initiate the First Report of Injury (FROI)

If Medical Treatment Is Requested Later

    • Contact the SIFCare Nurse Triage Line to update your claim and receive further direction.
    • Be prepared to provide your Call Reference Number when calling back.
    • Notify Human Resources at workerscomp@boiseschools.org that medical treatment is now being sought.

  • If treatment is needed, the SIFCare Nurse Triage Line will direct the employee to the appropriate medical provider based on their work location.

Employees are encouraged to use the assigned Preferred Provider whenever possible. If additional treatment is needed, employees should select a provider from the Preferred Provider List.

The Workers' Compensation claim will continue to be processed regardless of provider selection; however, approval and payment of medical services are determined by the State Insurance Fund and assigned claims examiner.

  • If an employee receives medical treatment beyond what can be provided at the worksite, they must meet with their Supervisor, Manager, or Human Resources Workers' Compensation Representative before returning to work.

A Workers' Compensation Status Update Form is required after:

    • Initial treatment
    • Follow-up appointments
    • Changes to work restrictions
    • Release to full duty

Completed forms must be submitted to: workerscomp@boiseschools.org

Accurate and timely documentation helps ensure work restrictions are communicated appropriately, safe work assignments can be coordinated, and Workers' Compensation requirements are met.

Non-Work Related Medical Conditions & Return to Work

When an employee experiences a non-work-related injury, illness, surgery, or medical condition that affects their ability to perform their job, the District requires documentation regarding work restrictions and fitness for duty before the employee returns to work.

The goal is to ensure employees can safely perform their job duties and that any temporary work restrictions are appropriately reviewed and communicated.

  • Employees should complete a Non-Workers' Compensation Return to Work Status Update Form whenever a healthcare provider places them on work restrictions or modifies their work status due to a non-work-related medical condition.

    Examples may include:

    • Surgery or hospitalization
    • Off-the-job injuries
    • Illnesses requiring work restrictions
    • Pregnancy-related restrictions
    • Medical conditions requiring modified duties or accommodations
    • Employees should meet with their supervisor or contact Huamn Resources at benefits@boiseschools.org to review any work restrictions before returning to work.
    • An updated form should be completed after each healthcare provider visit when restrictions change.
    • A final update is required when the employee is released to full duty without restrictions.
    • If an employee is absent for 10 or more consecutive workdays due to the same medical condition, they must apply for a leave of absence.
  • For questions regarding leave options, return-to-work requirements, accommodations, or medical restrictions, please contact:

    benefits@boiseschools.org

    Recommended Subject Line:
Employee Name – Return to Work / Medical Restrictions

    Examples:
