Voluntary Employee Benefits
-
Accident Insurance is a voluntary benefit offered through Sun Life that provides financial protection in the event of a covered injury. It helps offset unexpected out-of-pocket expenses such as emergency treatment, hospital stays, or medical exams due to an accident. This coverage can provide peace of mind for you and your family when the unexpected happens.

-
Critical Illness Insurance is a voluntary benefit that provides a lump-sum cash payment if you are diagnosed with a covered serious medical condition, such as cancer, heart attack, or stroke. This benefit helps support you financially during a health crisis by covering out-of-pocket expenses, household bills, or time away from work.
The amount paid depends on the severity and type of illness diagnosed — in some cases, a percentage of the total benefit is paid instead of the full amount. This extra layer of protection can offer peace of mind when you need it most.

The Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is a pre-tax benefit that allows you to set aside money from your paycheck to pay for eligible dependent care expenses, such as daycare, preschool, before- or after-school programs, and summer day camps.
This account helps you save on taxes while covering the cost of care for children under age 13 or for a spouse or dependent who is physically or mentally incapable of self-care, allowing you to work or attend school full-time. Employees must re-enroll each year during the benefit open enrollment period to participate.

Voluntary Life Insurance Designed for PERSI Members
The Boise School District offers eligible employees access to group decreasing term life insurance through the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems (NCPERS). Since 1989, this unique, voluntary life insurance plan has been tailored to meet the specific needs of public pension plan members—providing coverage that complements, but is not included in, your PERSI retirement benefits. While PERSI makes the plan available due to its membership in NCPERS, it does not manage or operate the plan directly.
